Southside housing vision

Considering the various stakeholders (students, families, vast age range):

• A real sense of community fostered by housing, achieved by mixed economy, lots of communal spaces, ranging from gardens to even communal eating spaces.
  
  
• The architecture of this is crucial-building plenty of communal spaces in new builds, and retrofitting
  
  
• Avoiding anyone being isolated, by encouraging regular events and gatherings within housing complexes- creating neighbourly vibes across the southside
  
  
• Innovative housing solutions, such as co-operatives which give power back to tenants without landlords, and live in schemes, where students gain free accommodation in return for living with and caring for someone in need
  
  
• Affordability- avoiding gentrification that displaces local members of the community, making sure long standing residents are protected. Ensuring prices do not spiral
  
  
• Social integration- avoiding ‘ghettos’ of the socially disadvantaged living in clusters, the wealthy living in gated communities. Instead all living in a mixed offer of varied housing
  
  
• Everyone feels safe and secure at all times
  
  
• A pragmatic solution to Airbnb taking over the housing provision, through regulation
